Well, I guess not using the rig would be the best. Or are you talking about when servicing or removing the engine?

I am just talking about keeping it clean as you grind your feet into it as you get behind the wheel.

I have a light weight rug over the hump and a small dog bed for Ultra to lie on when going down the road.

Stormy,
I have somewaht of an advantage as being an owner of a ChemDry franchise, I clean my and make sure I add carpet protectant when I clean. If you have a ChemDry franchise in your area, have them clean it and but a can of our world famous spot remover to keep it maintained.

Good information Bob. I am looking for something to "cover" that motor bump area with in-between cleanings. Does anyone make a mat or something like that, or is everything custom?

Buy a can of Woolite carpet and upholstery cleaner with a built in brush applicator and you can apply to the area. A foam will emerge from the applicator and you just brush it in with circular motions and let dry. I just cleaned my club chair today and it looks good.

Does anyone make a mat for the floor that might wrap around the engine "bump"?

I wiped out ALL carpet in our MH. Floor replaced with vinyl laminate. Wrapped the doghouse with ultra leather, which matches the new furniture, wipes clean with a wet cloth.
