CB Radios

My recently purchased 04 Journey has a CB radio. I am familiar with them from driving truck in the 70's and 80's, but it seems that they are currently much less popular. We just travelled 2000 miles and I heard no traffic at all. Have CB's become 'old hat"?

If that's the case, I can sure use the knee room and will remove it.

Thanks,
Ron

CB's

We still use our CB ,however there is very little talk not like the 70's and 80's- ours has a Weather channel, which we like to check on, when traveling. We do find that if there is a Traffic problem ahead you can usually get information on it. In case of a emergency someone will respond. As you noticed there is very little small talk now days. To many other electronic devices on board I guess.

I have one, I think. That is how much I use it.

I have one and can go for days at a time without hearing any chatter on it. Occasionally when I get in a group of truckers, there's some talking back & forth. Very seldom is there any RV traffic. It's still good to have in case of emergencies.

I used a CB a lot years ago, today it is a dinosaur. I would vote for the extra knee room. YMMV

It's helped us reroute around a sniper on an overpass and miss being shot at. It's helped us in so many traffic accidents to miss the tie ups. It's also helped us in knowing where and when the cops were doing speed traps and giving out tickets for going too fast or too slow.

I would keep it, but then we do use ours and do talk on it when traveling at times.

I occasionally turn the cb on but I have not heard any chatter in a long time. I never get any response about traffic tie ups when I transmit.

Technology has changed...smart phones with internet are the thing now. CBs were fun though...."Breaker, rubber duck"

You can do a search of this site for more information. One of the discussions I seem to recall that there was a move a foot to get RV'ers on to Ch13.

Another alternative is to replace it with one which has the mike only. It does not take up room under the dash the transmitter is hidden. I have this one but frankly do not use it.

I upgraded to that particular model just recently. Allows me to monitor channels 19/13 and weather. Agree it's not as heavy in use as the old days but still useful for traffic, chatter, etc.

I had one in my car, in the 80's. It helped me before the cell phone days. Now I am thinking of getting one for the MH, if we need help and there is no cell signal.
