Post Charlotte ugly fix

Does anyone know if you need to remove charlotte ugly fix from 2005 dd60 engine (monaco executive) before taking new california opacity smog test.

Don't know but I'd say its highly likely. They may refuse to even test it with an aftermarket mod present.

You should ask the vendor: https://www.theuglyfix.com/product-p/d-1.htm

They appear to be tampering with the emissions but the EPA hasn't shut them down with a massive fine so maybe they don't really.

Do you have that barometric sensor they remove to plug their fix in?

NO, the EPA would not approve as it would take the engine out of emission compliance.

From their website: "Our product is an electronic chip that utilizes programs in the ECM to in fact stops the EGR function"

Let us know how the emissions test goes with a modified system. Seriously.

Interesting read. OP needs to contact the company to find out what he needs to do to remove the system before the compliance test.

Doubt 'tech' will even notice it in place as it looks similar to the OEM barometric sensor

2005 doesn't have OBD so diagnostic will not be taken just a Snap Accelerator Smoke Opacity Test

It seems to supply a false barometric pressure to the ECM, an altitude that will keep the EGR valve closed. That's probably a really high altitude so it may cause a tailpipe sniffer test near sea level to fail.

That's why they say to not lose the original barometric sensor. If the OP does not have that sensor, me, I'd go to an auto parts store and buy a replacement sensor to plug in just for the test.

No tailpipe sniffer......
Non-OBD vehicles (2012 and older diesel engines) just a SAE J1667 snap acceleration smoke inspection and a visual inspection of the vehicle’s emissions control equipment

Looks like CARB can still require a sniffer if deemed necessary: https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/overview-use-compliance-testing

Plus, they have roadside sniffers looking for "high emitters" and even if you pass the electronic test they will require that you get retested.

Not my problem.
