Thumbs up Class A General Questions

1- How many keep their Class A units outside all year round when not in use?

2- When not in use- Do you keep slides in OR out? Is there a reason why?

3- Do you keep the unit plugged up when not in use?

We just bought a 2020 Georgetown ( By forest River ) Series 3 - 30X. I thought my 12' door was enough clearance-- and it was not --- considering building another shop with a 14' door opening-

I want to protect such a large investment.

We are NEW to the Class A...not camping in general.

Just seeing how other fellow Class A'er handle their rigs.

Thank you for your time and effort in replying to the New Guy on the block....

Our Class A is outside 24/7/365. When stored in Arizona we did have covered storage but mostly it is outside in all the elements.

When not being used slides are in as most place we park do not provide enough width to extend them.

I try to always have some type of power, even if that is just a shared 15 amp circuit to run a battery minder on the chassis batteries.

TY for posting these questions, this one in particular. Im wondering about this one because I have to keep mine outdoors all winter in below zero northern weather.

For those that do, what extra steps do you take to protect your roof etc?

TY OP for bringing this up!

Ours sits outside all the time as well. We just don't have a good place to put a cover.

Our slides generally stay in unless one of us is out there using it for some reason. But really, we see people living in them full time with the slides out.

Ours is plugged in when stored at home to keep the batteries up and the fridge running.

Ours is next to our house on a concrete pad, full hookups, outside

2- When not in use- Do you keep slides in OR out? Is there a reason why?

Generally, our single slide is out, and jacks down. I like to go out there some days, late in the afternoon, have a glass of wine, listen to a little Watercolors on SiriusXM, and relax, maybe work on the next trip planning.

3- Do you keep the unit plugged up when not in use?

Yup. House batteries charged, float charger on the engine battery, full gas, propane, and water tanks, empty holding tanks. Living in California, it's our lifeboat for whatever the next emergency is.

Ours is stored outside on a nearby farm. No power available so I stop by once a week or so and run the generator to give the batteries a charge. I’m seriously considering a couple of solar panels on the roof to trickle charge my batteries

We rent a private, 15 x 55 unheated garage. Has 50 amp, so MoHo is always powered. Rent is pretty steep, but includes use of a power wash, dump station & large compressor. Desirable enough that turnover is low & there's usually a wait list.

In addition to 24/7 access, we can work on it in inclement weather, it stays clean longer, batteries are always maintained & we don't need to unload the refrigerator after each use. Yeah, there's that rent....but we pay for the conveniences.

Slides in except as needed for loading, cleaning, maintenance.

Envy those w/a dedicated RV garage on their own property.

You need to budget covered storage when buying an expensive toy. Outside storage of a MH “, boat, or airplane is hard on them. I designed our home so a 45’ would fit...close and inside storage were that important for me. I also didn’t want the MH bay to overpower the house. Yes, there is a 45’er in there.

1- How many keep their Class A units outside all year round when not in use?
Outside and uncovered except for the tires. I also have MagnaShades on the front windows and front curtains closed. I usually have the window awnings down.

2- When not in use- Do you keep slides in OR out? Is there a reason why?
Slides usually left out after putting them out to access and empty the hamper and the wine, and to allow for resupply. With winter here in Utah, slides are closed for long term storage. NOTE: Slides must be fully open or fully closed for their seals to work.

3- Do you keep the unit plugged up when not in use?
When stored, it's always plugged in to 30A for battery maintenance. I also use my surge protector, even when plugged in at home.

1) Outside year round.
2) Slide retracted when stored
3) Plugged in. 4 stage converter maintains batteries without overcharging.

Everything I own is kept inside for obvious reasons. I have a 14ft door on one side of my shop. I don't worry when it rains like heck, I don't care how you look after them if there not stored indoors when not using them everything will look like crap down the road.

The increase in residual value of your coach in future years will never equal the cost of building a barn to house it.

You should probably say, the lessening of the depreciation in residual value. Just sayin...
