I just leave the SSN field blank. Never had an issue, it seems odd so many websites would ask for that. I have usaa so i had to get a bunch of quotes. Then I tried the Hartford, they wouldn't help me as I was not a aarp member. I joined for the few bucks and was glad i did as the Insurance cost was a third less than all the other quotes. And the Hartford could give me the higher liability I have on the home and cars that the others could not. All the others maxed out at 50% of the liability i wanted. So Hartford saved me $400 over the other companies with more insurance. All the other line items were the same coverage. I was amazed. My motor-home is insured by them now. Unfortunately they couldn't compete on price for my current auto policy or homeowners. Very odd as i never thought of usaa as being inexpensive. The Hartford never asked for my SSN.
