Edit: OK, I read the written instructions above the diagram. Am I to remove the entire top panel or just the smaller access panel? Not sure I could get off the entire top panel as I have wires in the way.
Looks like it's the top panel according to the diagram - however, being cantankerous I'd try it using the little panel first. (And probably drop the spark arrester to the bottom inside and THEN have to remove the entire top panel...)

See this note in the diagram...

Regarding your wires - you still might be able to remove the screws and then slide the panel to one side or the other without actually taking it out of the rig...

On my Onan KY4000 the spark arrestor requires a special I think 8 sided socket

I had 1700+ hours on my QD7500 and only checked the arrestor once--nothing came out. You could also reach the arrestor from below--fairly easily. My new to me 12.5k doesnt look as accessible. Looks like entire top panel has to be removed and this genset doesnt come out as far on the slide so it will be a major task to remove the panel--only a couple 100 hours on the genset so will be waiting awhile to perform this one!!!

That small square access panel in the middle of the top panel just gives you access to a lifting point for the generator.

Your not getting at the spark arrestor cleanout plug thru there.

Good thought, but completely different unit and layout. OP was justified in his/her dilemma regarding access... top panel has to be removed or at least unfastened and slid to the side/front/edge to get hands inside...
