Clearplex film

I'm having new windshields installed. Anyone use a Clearplex film on their vee to slow down the chipping and cracking process? My screens are 50x49 and price check will be $500 in my neck of the woodwork

Here's a link to a previous thread that mentions it. That sounds like a lot of money for a product that lasts one year ( per this thread ).
