I am looking at a 2008 Newmar Essex 45’ DP
What should I expect to pay for full coverage insurance on this coach. I got a quote from Geico and it was $1800.00 every 6 months. Does that sound reasonable?

You insure vehicles and rate drivers. An old saying that has relevance, but many factors are unknown in your question like value for a loss, amount of collision, comprehensive and liability limits. But in general, NEVER would I pay that much for any insurance plan. But it’s relative.

Find an independent agent who represents multiple lines to assist you.

Insurance premiums vary by location, driver(s), driving record and accident history. Location can be the biggest factor. Bear in mind that not all insurance companies look at RV's the same way. Some that do not insure many will charge more than others since they really don't care if they insure them. It's best if you shop around. Price difference between companies can be significant.

It does sound high, IMO.

Yes, it varies a lot between companies and there are a lot of factors that impact the cost.

The best thing is to shop around and trying to bundle it with other insurance products, if possible (home, auto, boat, etc.) to help keeping the cost down.

I just started pricing insurance on a new Tiffin RED. Progressive, Geico, Hartford and Good Sam were all about the same price at $1800-$2000 for a year. Some will only do the policy if you add a car as well. They also factor in your credit score, which seemed strange to me. Make sure you compare similar coverage and deductions and prices vary from state to state.

$1800 for six months seems very high. I have Geico ins with 250/500,000 liability and $500 deductible collision on our 2013 Allegro Bus. My premium is $480 for six months. Had to replace a windshield 10 days into the policy. They covered it at the place of my choice and no premium increase in 18 months.

2019 Allegro Red. I pay $1500/yr. Liab 250/500k, prop dam 100k, comprehensive 500 deduct, collision 1k deductible, uninsured motorist 25/50k. The largest line item is the 1k collision deductible. I have a long history of no claims and all my insurance is w/ State Farm for over 40 yrs which may be the key to the pricing.

I've paid $2300 per 6 months and I've paid $1200 for the same coverage. The major difference is SD vs. MO. Lots of other variables determine the rate, but your domicile state can make a big difference.

I have Foremost on my 2007. My dp is only 38’. Just under $2000 for annual policy. Just had Geico give me an estimate. It was a little over $2500 for same policy.
Lot of variable. Good luck

So many factors involved, makes it hard to compare prices form person to person, coach to coach, and/or location to location...

It pays to shop around in all cases....

I bought my first Class A in March... I was a "trailer guy" prior to that...

I checked all the recommended RV Ins companies (Good Sam, Progressive, National General, Nationwide, etc)...

For the same coverage, they all seemed to split into two price points... Most around $2K/year, and one or two at about $1.6K/year...

On a whim, I contacted our Allstate Agent who does our homeowner's insurance. I don't use her for cars (2) or motorcycles (3), just the home.

She thanked me "for the opportunity" to quote on the motorhome. She called back the next day and had a policy with the same limits, and a couple small but better coverage points, for $1.1K/year...

I sure didn't expect that.... She has since given better coverages for a cheaper price on my motorcycles, but couldn't beat my current auto coverages...

Again, check all possibilities ......

Is that quote on an agreed value policy? I wouldn't get any insurance on our Phaeton 40 if it was not an agreed value policy. Otherwise, if you have a total loss, you may not get close to the value of the coach when your policy pays out.

Others have said it, but I will say it also... Get an insurance broker who can price shop different plans for you. It does make a difference in what you will be paying and cost you nothing to do this. These days they will do it all by email so you don't have to go into an office to get the quote.

So much is determined by the state you're registered in. I'm in NJ and I just paid $2200 with Progressive. But we have high rates for everything!

Have State Farm for 40 plus yrs. 2014 cr-v and 1999 Dutchstar
Policy for both with ,500 D is 1200 a year full coverage. Have had 2 claims and no raise.
Very happy. Cricket golf cart is 50 bucks for full coverage.

I live in Idaho. My brother-in-law lives in Oklahoma. I tried to get the SAME policy he has - and found that it is impossible to match his policy with anything available from any of several different brokers up here.

The BEST price I got - was through Good Sam - for a policy that is close to his.
But, my Good Sam price was nearly double what he pays.
He has a newer, larger coach - than I. We figured it had to do with 'location, location, location.'

BTW - raw dollars - I'm paying about $900/year
