Coach Step wall switch problem

I just replaced the motor and the 164889 controller on my Coach Steps. They were both bad. The step switch on the coach doesn't turn the steps on and off anymore. It will turn the step light on and off during operation, but the steps won't stay extended or retracted. They always work with the opening/closing of the door. The switch goes to ground OK, and the step light works, so I think the controller sees the wall switch working. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

Could you add some more info to your post please .

Kwikee steps ?
Year and model of your coach ?
Was the controller part number exactly the same or did the number of the original controller change up to the number you posted?
Do you have the owners manual for the steps ? With wiring diagrams ?
Have you checked all the fuses in the step system?
I ask this last question , because , my coach has a step fuse, and circuit breaker, in the power cable bay 30 feet away from the steps.

These are Coach Steps
2003 HR Scepter
The new controller is not the same P/N as the old because they don't make the old one anymore. But the wiring in the coach matches the 164889 diagrams online in that the switched line from the coach connects to the appropriate line in the controller- white, switched to ground.
I have the manual wiring diagrams but they are unread-ably blurry. As I said before, the switched line connects to the proper line in the controller and the step light even switches on/off and the steps work otherwise. It also switches to ground as I would expect.
I have checked all the fuses I can find- in the front fuse box and in the back bedroom.

Thanks for you response.
