I just had a 18' x 40' pad installed. Instead of gravel they used recycled asphalt (road millings) which compacts better than gravel.

How important is it to have a moisture barrier underneath the coach? I'm planning to get horse stall mats to go under the tires. For $720 I can get enough to cover a 12' x 36' area. Is it worth it?

I don't think a moisture barrier under the RV is needed. If so, one could have been installed during RV pad construction.

With concrete, it's a good idea to install a vapor barrier before the concrete is poured. Not familiar with the use of recycled asphalt but i would think this could have been done as well. For now, i'd park the motorhome and see how everything works out. There's lots of air flow under there so i'm guessing this won't be an issue.

The important aspect is to keep the tires from prolonged direct contact sitting still with concrete or blacktop to avoid the moisture and possible undesirable interactions, also sitting water. The horse mats are great because they do that and are generous in size to provide easy positioning for tires and jacks when parking. Four of them should be all you need..a complete vapor barrier under the coach is not needed if the pad was designed to drain well.

I have plywood under my tires...concrete floor.

I use cutting mats the kind that are thin and like plastic or nylon used for cutting boards. about $1 a piece at walmart or any store that sells kitchen supplies. works great are water proof and tough, Light and easy to store.
