Comparable tire sizes

Hi to all,

Still in my search for tires, I've come across another question. My 03 Fleetwood Revolution came equipped with 275/80/22.5. I was interested in the Toyo m144's, but they aren't available in that size. Would it be OK to jump to a 295/80/22.5 or 295/75 to increase my selection not only with the Toyo's but other brands as well. How would you rate the Hankook AH22(275/80/22.5) compared to the Toyo M144. At current I'm only replacing the steer axle, so the larger tire wouldn't be a problem, but eventually would like a matching set if unable to go wider of the drives.
Thanks again for any replies.

Bob

275/80R22.5 and 295/75R22.5 are pretty close to the same dimensions.

The 295/80R22.5 not so much!

Pull up the info from the manufactures web site , you need to check every spec for the different size tire .

Load rating .
Height and RPM ( Revolutions Per Mile in tire talk )
Required rim width and spacing for dual wheels .

Going from the 80 to 75 wheel spacing could be an issue for the wider tire.

I agree that the 295/75R22.5 will be the closest size to the OEM Michelin. It's actually considered the "equivalent' size to the once proprietary Michelin 275/80R22.5. They will be so close that some even argue that they can be used on the same axle although that wouldn't be my preference unless absolutely necessary ...I prefer to have the same size and brand/model on the steer axle but in many circumstances, that may not be possible for cost reasons and/or replacement circumstances. In your case, however, you've already have stated that you're replacing only the front.

And I'm one who likes to stay as close to the OEM sizes as possible. One of the reasons in addition to a few others is that you never know where you'll run into clearance problems by just taking a stab at trying a taller or wider tire. But that's just me and others don't mind experimenting.

Since you've named two specific brands I'll stay with those for right now, would be to maybe consider the Hankook AH37 in the 295/75R22.5 ...instead of the more expensive and more difficult to find AH22 (in the 275/80R22.5).

Also check out the Toyo M154 and M170. The M154 has been very popular for motorhomes but many have started using the M170 plus it may be easier to find and bit less money ...both are available in the 295/75R22.5 in a load range H.

Another choice would be the Continental HSR2 in the 275/80/22.5. Also is a H rated tire and cost competitive.
