They have a couple of gen sets on the rear 'deck' and I would assume that the lights have a purpose.
So my thinking is that they could be towing boogie boards on the beach at night or for mushroom picking at night or rally driving on the many logging roads around here at night. The life preserver has got to have a purpose also!
The owner was dressed very well and had a FINE looking lady in his company. I wish I had an opportunity to have a conversation with the owner.
So fellows, what are we missing?

I decided that I would look up "mobile meth lab" on Yahoo Images. I looked at only 8 pages but oddly enough did not find a converted skoolie (or any RV) that was used as a mobile meth lab.

I did the same for Google Images. I found one in 36 pages. It was for a fictional TV show (Breaking Bad).

Mobile homes aka "manufactured housing", vehicles, motel rooms, houses all popped up but no RVs or skoolies. So why do you assume that it "looks" like a meth lab? Because it does not fit your narrow, uptight, straight-jacketed definition of RV? What about that bus bothers so many of you that you feel the need to make derogatory remarks about it or just make fun of it? As for the "Clampetts" reference... you know, I watched that TV show for many years. It made fun of the mountain people big time (the TV show was far, far from the truth, like most things that come out of Hollywood). But I would rather be friends with the likes of the Clampetts than some of the mean folks that posted on this thread. Please don't park next to me in your unimaginative, cookie-cutter, UGLY sticks-n-staples RV's. Oh wait, I bet I don't have to worry about that... you see I am currently in a old, dilapidated 1977 Class C and we are converting a 40 ft Blue Bird school bus (horrors). Just so thate are no mistakes... if you see one of the vehicles below... please stay far, far away. I wouldn't want my "cooties" to get on you. The skoolie will have a different paint job but not painted yet... just stay away from any almond & teal skoolies with copper trim.

Lorna, you're taking this far too serious ! People make fun of the un-ordinary always have, always will.... You must admit the bus isn't representative of the average sckoolie .

Lorna I sincerely apologize if anything we've posted offended you; we were in no way referring to your bus conversion.

However it's a pretty safe bet the bus we're referring to was built and painted to generate the type conversation you see here.

Note to Lorna

I would agree that you are taking this forum wayyyyyyyyyyy too serious. IMHO the ''people'' are not the coach, bus, wagon, or tent they camp in... It is the ''people in the coach, bus wagon or tent''.... I have camped since 95 and, true, I have seen some really interesting camping gear. I have seen all kinds shapes and sizes and in every color in the rainbow and I believe that 99.99 percent of the ''people'' camping in something really different are do this because they want to do it. I find that most of the time people are ''different'' because they want to be ''different'' and not '' cookie cutter '' people and I say hooraaah for these people. When I was younger I built and rode a custom ''Chopper'' Harley motor cycle. Something ''DIFFERENT'' than the run of the mill, ''cookie cutter'' bikes you see. In fact mine was the only one like it in the whole wide world because I built most of the parts in the bike. Back then you had to ''build a chopper'' because you could not order parts like today. Anyhow, I did it to be ''different'' and it got a ton of attention, and I personally believe the people that ''built'' the ''Back porch schoolie'' did just that and it is working like a charm.

As to the ''people'' on this forum I have no doubts that there are not a certain ''percentile'' with stiff necks, high collars, and ''lace toilet paper'' people but in my years of camping I have found very very very few people like that. Most of the people I have met camping were the ''Plain as dirt, salt of the earth, good folks'' that would share a campfire and a Beer with anyone. On the way to Alaska in 2000 we camped beside a 44 foot monster. It was the one with the automatic ''nose picker'', '' finger pointer'', quadrofonic sterio thingie, moster engine and all the bells and whistles you could imagine. Guess who was ''inside''........ Earnest Borgnine. Yep I was eyeballing his coach and he stepped out, shook hands with me and introduced himself. Hell of a nice guy. I commented on his coach and he said he envied our 30 footer because it had to be much easier to ''park'' than this ''tank'' he had. I laughed and offered to ''trade'' He said he might consider it if his stopped on him again. I told him I would watch out for him on the road.....

One last thought....... Dont take stuff too seriously on here. People on here are not ''making fun of'' something...... Hopefully they are ''LAUGHING WITH YOU AND NOT AT YOU'' ..... I probably get more ''ribbing'' on here than most and I know that it is because people are ''LAUGHING WITH ME....... NOT AT ME''.....
It matters not to me if you camp in a two man pup tent or a 44 foot, one off, ''custom built'' Blue Bird with 6 slide outs and a ''tank engine'' in the back. WE ALL CAMP UNDER THE SAME SKY AND GOD RAINS ON EVERYONE.......

Nuff said for now .....

God bless our vets and our troops and keep them all safe...

It was a joke. Nothing serious. I have no issues with what people travel/camp with.

I would be a good candidate to deserve "cut down" language.

My RV is a converted 1967 MCI coach (greyhound), and my toad is a 1985 Toyota pickup.

My rototiller is a 1947 ROTOTILLER, it says so on the cowling.

My motorcycle is a 1950ish Cushman Eagle.

My mind remains in the 50's and early 60's.

Lastly, I consider the modern coach's just a glitter box whose workmanship (for the most part) is shameful.

I know these words are worth the money spent on them, I'm just an old, fat, and ugly retired Navy Chief who admires that George Washington, in his personal self improvement list when he passed was "Speak not but to improve yourself or others, avoid trifling conversation".

Funny about that. No smiley faces, etc. I took it a serious statement. As for the rest of you. The "generalizations" are somewhat irritating. Why is it that it's "okay" to insult someone because they are doing something different... AND BY PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! I'm sure every single last one of you have run into the "Why an RV.. you can stay in a motel cheaper" people... and if you haven't yet... you will.

I am subject to being kept out of various campgrounds due to the age of my RV... it's over 30 years old... does that not indicate it's probably better built that the recent & current crops of fiberglass junk on the highways? I see the posts you folks post on these forums... "my slides leak", "my slides slide out when driving down the road"... "the slides don't slide out"... "my slide is out and it won't slide in" (Sorry but I really like that one... sooo funny ), this doesn't work, that doesn't work, my RV is back at the repair shop AGAIN.

I'm kept out of campgrounds due to MY age (okay, that doesn't really bother me... except the place that said David could stay but I would have to find someplace else to stay... Class C is in MY name... it goes with me and it did... we laughed all the way to the park we ended up staying in down the road... much cheaper too.).

And there are many private campgrounds that will not allow a converted school bus in. Why??? I certainly can not fathom. The majority of self converted rigs, no matter what they started out as, are better built because the builder has a personal stake in keeping the folks inside safe (didn't think of it like that did you).

As for the pic of the multi coloured skoolie.... that really is no worse than some of the new fiberglass "shacks" I see that looks like the person who designed the "paint smear" was high on something (paint fumes) or colour blind (my apologies to anyone who is colour blind). Seen one on the road recently... it was a white-ish/silver-ish non-colour looking background covered with "swirls" of black, gold, white and (I kid you not) what I can only describe as "safety orange". One of the most ghastly things I have ever seen. I would guess it was a high end rig with a high end paint job but it was BUTT UGLY (and that is an understatement). I would sure hate to have it parked next to me long term. Made me queasy just to look at it.

Lorna,

It seems that you are as guilty of the uptight attitude as the posters you complain about.

For those who apologize for their comments, don't say it if you don't mean it. If someone is offended it's their problem not yours.

I agree. My comment wasn't directed to anyone here so I don't see a need to apologize. If someone else takes offence to it then that is something they need to deal with.

As for smileys, I post from my cell phone and don't normally use them due to the autocorrect feature. But just to clear the air,

So you can post derogatory posts but I am not allowed to say anything? Interesting. Rules for you and different rules for those who disagree. Heard that one before. I think I need to quit posting for a while. And quit reading as well.
