It depends on how much the slide dips when it runs in and out, some units use the carpet to glide the slide in and out

Check out your slides- some have vinyl skids and no rollers. If you have those, it still is possible to install wood. But you would have to get those slide slickers and make sure your floor is clean before movement.
I have seen the end of the slide lower then the rest and on one coach, it tore the original carpet. Owner had to have it adjusted.
