Critters Eating Propane Lines

This may be a bit lengthy but I want to lay it out. Bought a new Forest River FR3 32DS, closing on March 17 and brought it home to our home in New Jersey, small town central in the state a mile from the ocean. Didn’t move it much, because of shut down, busy reloading. Took it to the dealer for some minor fixes and had the empty propane tank filled. Brought it home and parked it. Next day noticed a propane odor. The valve on the full tank had been left open, but the smell came from a hole some thing had eaten in the rubber propane line. Had this problem on a previous motor home, including eating the fuel line and replaced these with woven lines. Called the dealer and made an appointment to take it back to get the line(s) replaced. They have had it for 10 days, say they had to fine all the exposed lines and get measurements, figure it out get prices and get back to us. Called them again today. Need 4 lines and they are suggesting to replace with copper lines. If any one has had this experience please can you tell me how you resolved the issue or any suggestions you may have.

Welcome to IRV2! I've never heard of that happening with rubber lines. Squirrels are known to chew wiring and I'm had some chew plastic irrigation lines in our flower beds, but not rubber. Does the dealer have any idea what animal may be doing it?

First off, Welcome to IRV2!

I would first try to find metal braid shielded flex lines to replace the rubber ones. Copper lines do not flex over a period of time without breaking and I would use copper as a last resort. Or as an option, replace the rubber lines and use some good rodent repellent since you have had the same problems in the past.

Thanks. We have tried the rodent repellent in the past and it did not work! And thanks for the thoughts on the copper lines.

The thoughts about the copper lines is something we were questioning.
