Cruise Control

Have 2007 National Tropical w/5.9 Cummins / Freightliner. Cruise control accelerates indefinitely, i.e. it won't maintain at set speed but rather the coach keeps accelerating until the cruise control is disengaged. The problem started after I replaced the LBCU but I'm not sure whether the cruise problem is related to the LBCU replacement or just coincidental.

Do you still have the old LBCU and does it work well enough to test the cruise control?

Spoke with Freightliner (800-385-4357). I was told no relationship between LBCU and Cruise Control. They suggested a new Stalk Switch. This is the turn signal controller that also has the following cruise control switches: On, Off, Resume/Accelerate and Set. The part number is RGT480789 and costs about $200. It will arrive tomorrow. I did further research and found the OEM wiring diagrams for the IPX Controller that manages the cruise control via signals from the Stalk Switch. The Stalk Switch has a 12 pin connector that plugs into the IPX Master Controller at connector block #11 which is manufactured by Vehicle Improvement Products (VIP). The acceleration circuit is managed by a N.C. contact (contact 11.3) on the IPX Controller. When the momentary "Resume/Accelerate" switch is pushed, N.O. contact 11.3 closes and the throttle is advanced, i.e. the motorhome accelerates. When it is released, the contact opens and speed is maintained at the setpoint. Therefore, it appears my problem is either at the Resume/Accelerate switch on the Stalk Switch or N.O. contact 11.3 on the IPX controller is stuck in the closed position. If replacing the Stalk Switch doesn't work I plan to replace the IPX Controller.
