Thumbs up He told you RIGHT about the mileage!

Let me say that the gentleman that told you about the mileage was NOT as some posted "delusional" nor was he "wrong"! The Gentleman told you the TRUTH.

I was always bad to put the cruise on 65 and still kept foot on gas and ran 65 to 68 all the time and then I read an article in Motorhome Magazine that said they had tested coaches and they found if you run at a constant 58 miles per hour and adding fuel additive to keep fuel system clean you would increase your mileage dramatically. After reading that we had just come back from a Western Roadtrip and so our next roadtrip was to Key West Florida and I got a case of Lucas Fuel Additive and added 2 bottles at fill up and wrote down the speedometer reading to check the mileage, I put the cruise on 58 miles per hour and checked it against the GPS and we averaged 11.5 MPH and I had never gotten better than 8.7 before, coming home I again checked it and go 10.9 but then I got foot heavy a few times. The article said to add the fuel additive every 3rd fill up, which I did. So let me tell you from experience and NOT on opinion, it does increase your mileage plus I now feel that it makes a safer trip as well!

And before you ask, YES we were pulling a toad as we do everywhere we go!

Now I know that there are those on here that just wants to argue so if you disagree with anything I said, please just scroll on and don't even post a negative reply. My post is directed to the person who posted this originally and I wanted to answer their question and I did just that and I did it with 100% complete HONESTY, so if you want to argue, just KEEP IT TO YOURSELF because there are too many on our group that lives to argue or post something negative in their need for attention. To all the others, I hope you find this information helpful, I truly was shocked how accurate the article was in regards to 58 MPH to save on mileage, by the way, the trip to Key West was in our Gulfstream, it had a Triton V10 Ford Engine, we traded it in on our Tiffin which has a bigger engine and I intend on testing it on our next long roadtrip.

Happy Trails and Safe Travels!

Happy Independence Day to Everyone!

At what speed do you people usually cruise on an interstate highway?

I travel at about 60mph because the previous owner said that was the best speed for fuel economy and he would average 12 MPG on a trip.

On my last trip of just under 500 miles, I tried to cruise at 60mph and at the end I got 8.2 MPG. Now mind you that was through the hills in the Finger Lakes, but still getting almost half of what he did.

Unfortunately, I can't ask him any questions because he passed away just after selling me the rig.

So I will be very appreciative of all what you have to say on this subject.

Thank you

Here is a picture of our trip from Indy to Charles City IA this week. Temps were in the 90’s.
Total miles 494.8. Cruise set between 60-62. Rarely go faster except when conditions warrant it.

68 or 66mph

On the expressway I usually travel. 66 to 68 mph. I have a 2000 Bounder DP, and pull a Saturn Vue. My VMSpec tells me I get 11-12 mpg, but the diesel pump tells me I’m getting 9-10mpg. Gotta go with the facts and not the computer.

I try to stay around 65 mph so as not to obstruct fellow interstate travelers and I am averaging 8.4 mpg with towing in my 43 foot Entegra Anthem. My tow car is limited to 70 mph. I use my cruise control on flat ground and aux brake in low when going down steep hills to minimize braking. I also slot in behind semi trucks when climbing a steep hill because they are going to go faster than I am once they reach the top. It sounds like you are getting pretty good mileage already. My best advice is (1) don't exceed the towing limit for your tow, (2) relax and enjoy the ride, and (3) always drive defensively.

To all the 'ha ha'ers' out there, I beg to differ. I checked every tank of fuel
on my 34ft tiffen allegro with a 5.9 cummins, and over 45k miles I got a steady 12+ mpg. I got as high as 13.5 and as low as 11, towing a 13lb car and running at 55mph. Yep, 55mph. It can be done. I am in no hurry, retired, and enjoy the ride. Having said that, I just upgraded to a 40ft Monaco with a M11 cummins, 500hp, and running 58mph get 8mpg. More weight, bigger engine. Jon...

seems like the little 5.9's do pretty well on fuel. I average 11-12 at 63-65 mph, always towing either trailer or car on a dolly. I did get 13.4 coming from Galveston TX to Oklahoma City but I did have a tail wind.

2014 Tiffin Allegro Bus 45LP

We have driven 10K miles over the past 6 months towing a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. We always go 62-64 mph with the cruise control and our MPG is between 8.2 to 10.0. The only variable is the hills we encounter while driving. I have a monitor on the dash that shows the load on the engine and the avg MPG while driving. I never got into the weeds of calculating the actual MPG with gallons filled up and the miles driven because the aqua hot burns diesel for hot water along with the generator, so its very difficult to get actual MPG and a tank full of fuel.

Cruising speed

62mph . 02 Bounder 5.9L diesel pusher with a 6 speed Allison. It shifts into 6th at 61mph and I give it one mph more and set the cruise. I have got as high as 11mpg without towing anything. Towing my Jeep or race trailer gets me 8.5 to 9mpg.

Usually 60 to 65. We get 7.5 mpg in our 18,000 lb F53 pulling a Jeep JK. I don’t use cruise, and avoid high rpm climbs by slowing down a bit.
