I got 10 miles to the gallon going to Disney with the generator running. 1994 Gulfstream Friendship. Oldie but a goodie. 300 hp Cummings never a problem in 20 years of ownership.( Knock on wood ) over 1000 miles did it 3 times

2014 Thor Class C on a Sprinter 3500 chassis.
We get 15-18MPG cruising 55-58 MPH.
Gotta love those German Engineered Diesels.

Ditto here.

6.5 to 8.0 at 65 or so. Sometimes I will crank it up a bit if conditions are encouraging. 65 is comfortable cruising.

Speed

We have a 2007 ALFA SeeYa Gold 40' with a 400 Hp Cummins. We only get 7.5 - 8.2 at a speed of 62 MPH

We try to hang at 60MPH. That’s about 1700rpm and appears to give us the most bang for our diesel buck. We got a bit over 9MPG (awesome) between the finger lakes and Ohio and that was a 40 foot motorhome pulling a F150.

Cruising Speed In Motorome on Interstates

I usually limit my speed to 60-65mph. This allows me a better miles per gallon around 8 to 9 miles per gallon. Also I feel more in control of my motorhome. I am retired and have no need to risk an accident by traveling at a high speed. You never know what hazard might be in the road or when a tire might blow.

We try to stay just under 70 mph and get 13-15 mpg in sprinter diesel

62ish and I have no idea what mileage I get. When I need fuel, I buy some. I figure if I'm losing sleep over fuel mileage I probably shouldn't own a motor home.

I think once you really look at most of the posted responses you will be happy if you are getting 7 mpg or a little better gas or diesel. There are many variables to these mileage figures especially when you consider the fact that you are basically pushing an over sized brick with no real aerodynamics down the highway at or near 62 miles per hour. If you have a diesel pusher of any size it could weigh close to or over 40,000 pounds and that is half the weight of a 80,000 pound max weight over the road 18 wheeler that at best might get 3 to 5 mpg on flat ground.... so if you are getting 8 to 10 mpg all things must be going right. If you look at the over the road trucks most have all kinds of deflectors and shaped fenders while a motorhome has a windshield as big as a barn door with the about the same aerodynamics as said barn door. It would be very interesting to see a large motorhome in a wind tunnel with tracer smoke that would show potential losses caused by wind resistance at various speeds and if nothing else that alone would make you drive under 60 mph.

Cruising Speed

It seems like most everyone is pretty much in the same ballpark range and they tend to say the PO was not true in his statement to you. It depends on what you think and who or who not to believe. I'd say you have been giving some fairly honest figures.
When I went into this RV thing I read a lot of post on a lot of sites about this topic and the majority of folks replied in a like manner with figures below 10. So I knew from the start if you want high milage readings stick to an auto and drive the posted speeds but better yet use the equation and tally up what speed gives you the best. Keep in mind driving a Rv is somewhat like a motorcycle your milage will carry but most of all drive safe and do the speed that's posted.
Going into this and researching this topic I realized I'm driving a house on wheels that is in no way up on aerodynamics so we never travel in constant tall winds so your milage will stink to some extent.
To me, I understood this from the get go and I know the cost will go up and down and with that I usually do the posted speed limits and if it was so important to watch every penny spent on gas / fuel I likely would have opted to do my travels via Cruise Ship, Aircraft or auto gas is money and so is time. Just toss it to the wind travel , see the states and have a blast but do it all safe!

We are retired fulltime, so we have no place we HAVE to be

Typically I will run our MH 62-65MPH on the interstate and usually see 9.5MPG in flat-to-hilly terrain. This drops to 8MPG in the hills and East Coast/Canada mountains.

We are convinced that better milage is a function of a newer engine systems: for example, a friend of ours has a older (non-DEF) Tiffin with the same 450HP Cummins, and they are lucky to get 7MPG on flat terrain.
