Cummins 5500 oil change issues

Anyone else have issues changing the oil and filter on their generator? Given there is only a small amount of the oil filter accessible. i apparently did not get it tight. Dumped a bunch of oil before shutting it off. Problem is the oil dumps between plates that is hard to clean up. Is there any issue with fire after the generator gets hot while running?

When I changed the oil in mine I bought this kit.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The filter wrench worked great.

That is a bad design in my opinion. Let it drip out. Wipe as much out as possible. I would give it a good short blast of water. It’ll be ok.

A filter wrench like the one in the Amazon link posted above is what I use and is the only type that works for me. It is not easy to replace the oil filter and it is messy getting the old one out.
I change the fuel filter also when I change the oil. That's probably not necessary but it's not difficult and I don't want anything to go wrong with the gen.
Thanks,

I will have to buy that kit for the next go around. Was going to change the air filter also anyway.

bad design.... I have the issue when taking off the filter. I use a filter wrench that looks more like a set of channel locks pliers. Always start with a handful of rages.

Filter gasket

Same thing happened to me. Caused from the old gasket not coming off with the filter. They do not like a double casket.
