Cummins generator questions

Hey guys so I just picked up a new RV class a

Has a Onan generator diesel

If I pull generator slide out and hold the button it will start

The gen switch inside the couch will cut it off but not start it.....

If I have my son hold gen start inside the couch I can see the switch on the gen light up, and noise but no start

Any insight will be helpful guys! Thanks

My inside button is three position. The top side I hold for several seconds (the light flashes in the switch) before it’ll start, which I imagine is the glo plugs doing their thing. Sometimes it can take 20 seconds or so depending on the outside temperature. From your description I’m wondering about a loose wire or bad ground between the inside switch and generator.

Hi, Welcome to iRV2.
Your not giving us a lot of Make/Model/Year of your coach but I'm going to guess you will have a control cable that runs from the dash switch to the generator. In that cable there is likely a connector. Suggest pulling that connector apart and give it a good cleaning with some contact cleaner, apply a dab of dielectric grease to the contact pins and reassemble.
