Cummins ISL cold start "clicking"

As stated when I start the engine it makes a light ticking/clicking perhaps more prominent on the left side. When warmed up, stopping at a rest area and doing a walk around inspection, no extra sounds. It may have been doing it for a long while, sometimes you just notice things. Runs fine, no loss of power or oil pressure issues. No leaks. About 65K miles now.

It could be the air compressor filling the air tanks.

Listen for the sound to change after the air dryer purges.

Good thought. I'll be moving it in a couple of days and I'll listen for that.

On mine, it’s the compressor. I wondered at the rattle at first until I figured that out. Mine can be fairly noisy when standing near the rear of the coach.

After I completed my annual maintenance I started the engine to let it run a little bit while I cleaned up the mess. As I walked around the back of the coach I heard a clicking sound. I opened the radiator opening to discover that when I had done the final oil check I had not put the dipstick in all the way. Pushed it down and the noise stopped. I guess the inside engine sounds were echoing up the dipstick.
