Is it possible to adjust the valves on the Kubota diesel with out removing the generator from its cradle?

I have had one quote of $2k to remove the generator adjust the valves and execute the recommended 1000 hour services.

The cost seems outrageous to me.

Two years ago I paid $2,500 at the Cummins Coach Care Center in Houston for the 1,000 hour service for the Onan QD 7500 watt generator in the 2007 Damon Astoria 3774 I had then. Since the Astoria was an entry level diesel pusher, the generator was not on a slide out tray and there was no room around the generator to do any work. As such, the generator had to be dropped out of the frame to perform the 1,000 hour service.

The 1,000 hour service included changing belts, changing coolant hoses, cleaning the spark arrestor, changing glow plug and adjusting the valves (which need very little adjusting and changing the oil and all filters. Additionally a new coolant tank was installed (the original tank had a small crack and leak) which is not part of the 1,000 hour service.

If your generator needs to be dropped out of the frame, the quote you received is reasonable. If your generator is on slide-out tray, the quote may be a bit high.

The early Onan 10k and 12.5k diesel generators use an Isuzu three cylinder diesel engine. You can remove the top cover panel and see Isuzu on the valve cover. It's a great engine and ultra reliable. I would guess that most of the valves are still near original adjustment. Do you hear it clattering, especially on initial startup?

IF you remove the generator, you should also change the belts. There are two belts in the rear section and they are difficult to access, even on a slide out.
