Cutting a bigger window

Anyone knows how hard it would be to take a window out and put a bigger one (about 20" longer) instead?

It all depends on the internal framing. There may not be enough room to safely install a larger window.

You could be compromising the structure of the frame.

If you have a hung wall construction then there is probably a metal frame around the window opening. If you have the vacuum laminated sides they probably is not a metal frame. Our rig has the laminated sides but there are metal frames around each window opening.
The vacuum laminated ones would be easy to do. Last one I had opened up was a Monaco Diplomat, it had a wooden frame around the opening.

Hi Mr. D

This is a 2010 Monaco. I guess I can always insert a wood frame around the edge of the new cut??

What model Monaco do you have???

Is the location you want to mount the window in a slide??

If it is a higher end model, Dynasty or Signature it will have the full metal cage. If you try to install a window in one of these you will have to cut the tubing which would jeopardize the structural integrity. You might be able to put tubing back in but it would have to welded to have any strength.

The lower end coaches have aluminum tubing, same issues as above regarding the structure.

You might look at different floor plans of the same model you have and see if any have different size windows. If they do the sides have been made the same as far as structure and it may be easier to retro fit.

It's a Dynasty and I have seen several other Dynasty (different models) that have a bigger window exactly where my smaller window is now.

The location is on the slide out wall.

Under right conditions in colder weather condensation will form on the side of the coach and will give you the location of the main structural members. If you can get a picture of the slide out in these conditions it will provide some of the info you are looking for. If possible you may be able to mark these members with tape.

The slide out itself is a box and has a lot of structure. You may get lucky and the main cross members already in the right location. You will still have to somehow reweld what ever you cut out and the heat will destroy the fiberglass unless you can put a decent barrier between the weld and the outside skin.

Will you do this yourself of have someone else do it?

I have the built plans for the slide out from Monaco but it doesn't show what is inside the wall.

I am looking to have a pro do it for me.

Probably very doable if the slide wall was completely exposed, the changes made and then the wall put back together.
