I'm also having a difficult time understanding what you're describing but I'm thinking it may be the sensor for the radio remote that is located on the steering wheel.
(in the future, it would be great if you could please tell us as much information about the identity of your coach that might help get answers such as the manufacturer, model, model year, floor plan designator, chassis, etc. and of course, as Gary suggested, snap a quick photo of the item(s) you might be asking about, You can also create a signature that will automatically put that information at the bottom of your post without your having to do it manually each time you post)
During those years (we once had a Winnebago product of that era), they used a battery operated remote that was almost jury-rigged to the steering wheel (and I'm NOT referring to a Smart Wheel) that could be used to control the radio/stereo. It looked somewhat integrated, however, so didn't appear abhorrently out of place.
Since it was battery operated with no wires to anything, it needed to communicate with the dash via a IR type sensor that was in the dash. That sensor then was wired to the audio system on the dash. I believe the sensor had a round cap that was dark red in color.
I attached a screen shot from a salesperson sales demonstration video of a 2007 Itasca Suncruiser (I just guessed yours to be a Suncruiser as it's on a F53) If this is not your model, do the components themselves look similar to yours?
If this is not the question you're asking about, then of course, disregard.
