Looking at purchasing a dash cam for our Class A motor home. Suggestions for those that have recently purchased a dash cam. Thanks.

Dash cam

Good morning, so i just bought and installed a Rova 4k, i used to have a YI Dashcam. The new Rova has several advantages over the YI, now that said i will tell you i have NOT taken my coach out yet with the new cam installed. What I know so far is 1st it feels a lot more sturdy, then when prepping it for service its alot more helpfull, when in the coach setting location i used wifi then walked around an viewed best location looking at my phone screen. I purchased the upgraded hardwire kit, when installed allows camera operation when the ignition is in the run position, then it has battery power continuously to power the camera should there be a “ situation“ while your rig is parked. The reason i purchased it was like you had gone on to a couple other sites an so many members spoke of this camera more than others, and i looked at many of the others listed an felt the Rove offered several amenities for the $$. Dont get me wrong there are several others with a bigger price tag, this one for me gave me what i needed.

Here's a recent post on dashcams which might help. Based on this I purchased the Rove R2-4K and am very happy with it.

My dash cam has a 1080 setting I use. Twice I need to pickup a tag number, once in Alaska when a rock truck threw rocks into me (smashed windshield) and once on I97 in Maryland when a flatbed truck lost lumber and destroyed the front of a 5th wheel (friends) that was following me. Failed to capture the tag due to poor resolution. Could not read company name either because of poor resolution. I will revert back to my GoPro.

Rexing or Rove.
I have a Rexing V1 4K. Bought it directly from Rexing on their Ebay store. Cheap, free ship, and new with a warranty. It was $85. They don’t have that deal anymore. They still have refurbished with a warranty for only $75. I think I’m going to buy the refurbished one for my Toad after seeing that accident on Facebook.

The new one

Dash cams are improving by leaps and bounds every year, I bought one for my coach in 2016, and another at the end of 2019, both were well under $100 black friday deals, and the improvement all around between 2016 and 2019 was amazing, I would fully expect even the cheap 2021 models to be a big step up over my 2019 model.

Ours came with a Garmin.

Hooks up to your phone.
Records to an sd card which you can remove after an incident as evidence.
Seems to work nicely.

After spending a lot of money on cheap dashcams I bought the Rove R2-4K. We love it! It's super-easy to program and use, and the videos are great!

I ordered the Rove R2-4K yesterday and it will arrive today, happy to see so many good reports on it here. Yes the technology advances greatly year to year, I have an old SmartWitness that at the time I bought it was one of the best, it still works but the issue is playback, you have to bring the video to a PC and watch it. This would be very inconvenient in an accident, the officers need to see it right away. The on screen display is too tiny to see much detail, like if the light was red or green etc.
For those expecting to be able to capture plate numbers on a moving vehicle with a $100 camera, well good luck with that. Good license plate cameras have special software that zooms in automatically on numbers and cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
