You can improve economy to make up for the A/C by draining all of your tanks, keep the fuel below half, air the tires to maximum, only drive with a tailwind and leave DW at the rest stop

We use both the dash and roof A/C's when it's hot out, usually 90+ plus degrees. Our coach is relatively small at 36' compared to some who've replied, so we don't have as much area to cool. But I've checked fuel usage several times when using the gen and roof air vs. the dash A/C vs. using both to keep us comfortable while going down the road. The difference is pretty negligible considering all the possible variables that affects the numbers, coach weight each trip, terrain, weather conditions, etc. Our desire/need to be comfortable out weighs the difference in fuel usage.
The real difference comes in the cooler months when we don't have to use either the dash or roof air. Then, the 1/2 to 3/4 mile per gallon savings has us rolling in the dough.

Thanks for the replies. This was actually a curiosity rather than a financial question regarding the 1/8 gallon of fuel.

So every hour the Onan is running, it is using less fuel than the engine running an hour with the dash AC on. The Silverleaf is very accurate.
I agree and it is better to exercise the gen every month
