It sounds like this guy wants it totally his way and you are just a bump in the road on his way to the next customer.
That is not how business is done, or how good customer relations are built.
Take a moment and imagine how your conversation would go after the sale if you had an issue!
There are far too many good dealerships, good sales people and good private sellers out there to take any crap from this guy.
Walk away, and feel good about it.

That requirement may make it almost impossible to find the coach you want.

Well, guess we will never have a coach then.

Angie,
How are you going to be there for the dealer's PDI if you find an in-stock coach? He has likely already done the PDI after it came into his lot. You are certainly free to note any discrepancy on your initial walk-thru that needs correction. Those items are written up as part of the sales agreement prior to delivery.

I can't believe that you are even asking this question.
I would not even waste my time using that dealer to buy parts or even work on my MH. It appears that they are more interested in your money and don't care about you or your MH and making sure things are right. They don't want repeat customers, they just want your money now.
Now delete their phone number and go find your next RV some where else.

His pricing is all part of his business plan. (Maybe) He might have found that by keeping his profit margins high, he has to handle fewer units to end up with a better bottom line at the end of the year. He might have learned that sooner or later someone will come along and pay his price. Some dealers can get along fine with that practice. Not every RV shopper is savvy to the pricing of motorhomes. Some are happy to pay whatever the price is if they like the unit. If he's in business, it must be working for him.

As I have said more than once, sometimes the best deals are the one's you do not make.

If you don't mind sharing, what was the make, model and mileage of the coach in question. Being a 17 unless it's the rare custom build, there will be plenty of example around the country. Yes buying locally is nice but there is no warranty for a used 17 so dealer service is a moot point. Going to RVT, RVtrader or just googling XXX for sale will give what market conditions are.

It would be unusual for a dealer to allow a customer to take part in the PDI. Depending how extensive the PDI actually is it could take several hours to complete, even up to half a day or more. A good dealer will record every finding of the PDI and may negotiate with the buyer on covering the cost or partial cost of the discrepancies found. Obviously any dealer is expected to go over the PDI with the buyer and discuss the findings but the customer actually taking part in the PDI is an unusual request.

Everything else about what this dealer is doing is unusual and a good reason to walk away and find another coach. And another dealer as you won’t want to be dealing with him on future service or purchases.

Number of things have been stated and there is some sage advice.

Bottom line is its his coach and he can price it as he sees fit. On the other had you have the money and you can spend it when and where you like. A successful sale is when two parties get together and exchange money for goods.

Since this is a used coach the dealer may feel that he has a unit that may be in demand because of limited production of the model, perhaps some options the previous owner added, maybe he is planning on using it for his vacation and is not really prepared to sell it at the moment unless he gets a good price.

The next thing I think about is he may not think you are serious and wasting his time. Or it will require too much effort for him to satisfy you to make the sale.

Bottom line is whether you want the coach enough to pay his price. Does the coach fit your needs and wants? Or are you prepared to wait and look for a similar coach?

IMO MSRP is a stupid bogus number that really serves little purpose. If it was a valid number you would not hear of dealers routinely discounting the price up to 30%. How does the price of a new comparable coach with the dealer discount compare with this one?

The only thing a dealer does when taking delivery of an RV is to do a visual inspection for cosmetic defects that may have occurred during transport. When the transport company take possession of the RV from the manufacturer the transport company will note any cosmetic defects they find. These are the responsibility of the manufacturer. As stated above when the dealer takes possession from the transport company they will note any cosmetic defects. These are the responsibility of the transport company to pay for. The dealer doesn't stick a dime into the coach until it is sold and that is when a PDI is done by the dealer to make sure all systems work. When a customer takes delivery another PDI is performed but that is really only for show and tell to explain how the systems work. During this last PDI quite often the customer may find issues that need to be addressed. If they are simple the dealer may take care of them on the spot. If not they may be asked to bring it back at another time. Any good dealer will spend as much time as is needed during this last PDI. Some customers may only need an hour but others may need more time.

If I was a dealer I would only invest the minimal time in the coach until it was sold. There is always the possibility of the coach being transferred to other dealers.

The RV business is booming. People are retiring and the stock market is up. People have money and want RVs.

It's a sellers market, I think.

Just shop around for the best deal you can find.

If you really WANT this coach, then this is the deal he is offering, and he may have sensed your eagerness. Besides price, the lack of other services seems like it is not a good deal for you.
