I was thinking of using one of my 5 gallon plastic gas cans to carry DEF in. Will this work? I have not had any gas in them in years.

Lol how do they clean the dpf filters? Bake them which creates smoke and ash of which is potentially carcinogenic

Additionally if you earned your living with one of these motors and spent as much time and money as do the people that operate trucks with these systems you would likely have a different opinion. Most dealerships are clueless parts changers. Cant tell you how many trips to the dealer we've made lost numerous days from work waiting to be repaired tens and tens of thousands of dollars. (Typical replacement of system is 10 grand)
And I'd guess about 75% of the time you drive less then 500 miles and your friendly check engine light has returned
The year prior and what led up to us getting the dpf system deleted we spent just about 20 grand on the dpf system and still had ck eng lights coming on

So yea dpf/def sucks

May not want to use any old def. The systems are very temperamental as to the quality of fluid

Have never had a problem using BlueDEF or WalMart house brand. It's said that DEF has a limited shelf life, though, so I make sure to rotate my stock. Last cross-country trip, I intentionally drew my DEF tank down 'til the warning light came on before I refilled, so I know it's all fresh now.

It is no more difficult than fueling up. I fill about every 2500 miles. I get about 300 miles per DEF gallon.
