Most everyone agrees you are buying a lifestyle and entertainment and it all cost money.

One thing for the full timers is you have to have a place to live so that money can go towards the cost of ownership. Those of us that don't full time have to eat the whole deal and I think Crasher pretty well nailed it for our situation.

One thing is don't look back on what you could have done, just enjoy what you are doing

The depreciation varies with the brand. If you want to get a general idea on a specific model, look at NADA Guides and use the low retail value for comparison.

An RV is a depreciating asset, so good luck.

My wife and I have talked about sometimes we wonder if we shouldn't have bought it. But in the few months we have had it we have made memories. Some good some bad. But in general the memories make it worth it. The last couple trips we took this year were fun and nothing major went wrong. Especially the Halloween celebration at the last park we went to. Our daughter loved it.

You will lose money on an RV product. You only “win” when you use it to be somewhere you want to be, sleeping in you own bed, eating what you want when you want it. Those that worry about depreciation are destined to be unhappy.

Thats a tough question, when I was living in California, the Vehicle License fee was outrageously high but if you were to use DMV Vehicle registration data you would find a very steep depreciation for vehicles purchased USED (Motorhomes) tend to lie er ah misrepresent the cost they actually paid for the vehicle (New Vehicle registration is accurate because it takes the sales data directly from the dealer. With new vehicle data you could pretty much determine what the discount is from MSRP's when it is purchased. For all of California's faults, the state gives you the benefit of the bargain - that is to say, they will base the VLF on the actual price paid to the dealer. But here in Arizona, they only base their vehicle license fee on the MSRP and for each succeeding year use a straight line depreciation on the vehicle - now matter what a buyer negotiates from the seller. The point is, what California bases their vehicle license fee on are a very good estimate of what the discount was on a new vehicle. So maybe that information might be available from AAA or someplace else. I have heard the 20% discount off RV MSRP many times but have no way of actually knowing it. Best of luck

Looking at some $1,300,000.00 at 10-12 years old worth maybe 200,000.00 if you can find a cash buyer ... RV's are not a investment ... It's pay to play . Enjoy !!

I bought my 08 Bounder with very low miles when it was 5 years old in good condition at 40 percent less than what the 1st owner paid new.

About a $45,000 savings plus the 1st owner install air bags and Banks power pack system and that right there was another $5000 in savings.
