Did Small Class A's go away?

We went to a regional RV show last month and spent a few hours looking around, while there we saw no smaller class A's under about 32 ft in length, now this weekend we are at an RV park which has about 130 RV sites, the park is nearly 100% occupied, well over half, perhaps over 2/3 the sites contain class A coaches, many / most are diesel pushers, followed by 5th wheels, travel trailers and a smattering of smaller B/B+ and C's. Out of the Class A coaches our 28 ft 2002 Safari Trek on a 17,000 GVWR chassis is by far the smallest Class A here, not only in length buy also in height standing at only 11'6" to the top of the air conditioner. It is all rather striking to look at, compared to all the other Class A coaches around us, ours looks like a 2/3 scale model, much like those small pickup trucks that were so popular in the 1980's and 90's look when sitting next to their half ton brethren, or the way those old half ton trucks look sitting next to the more modern bulky half ton trucks out there.

All this leads me to ask, where have the smaller Class A coaches gone? I know in theory they are out there, until recently at least (I have not actively looked the last year or two) many of the major brands have offered 26 -29 ft coaches in their line up, though few if any under about 27 ft in the last few years, though even those tend to stand a foot or more taller than our 22 year old coach. Are they simply not selling many, or am I just in the wrong place to see them in the wild.

They are out there. Jayco and Thor make some. I see a few at our storage space. The Precept and Vegas come to mind right away.

Maybe folks are buying the Class B instead?

I do know Newmar (now part of Winnebago) has three models under 30 ft, and 12’4” tall in their Bay Star Sport line. List price for the smallest one, according to their website, is just a tad shy of $200k.

Tiffin has been building the Breeze for quite some time. They have ranged from 28' to 33' models.

Thor offers the Axis/Vegas twin models 24.x and 25.x. They are 25 or 27 feet, respectively, and are built on the Ford E350 or E450 chassis, depending on model.

As your observations have shown, Class A's under 32 ft exist but aren't big sellers. Every few years some of the big RV brands offer 26-32 ft models in response to proclaimed demand, but usually soon discontinue them due to lack of sales. By far the Class C or super-C get all the small motorhome business. Currently the Thor ACE is available in 29, 30 and 32 foot floor plans, and the Thor Axis and Vegas go down to 26 ft. Winnebago has a couple 30 ft gas class A's. Tiffin was offering some smaller sizes, but discontinued them a year or so ago.

I put almost 80K miles and had many years of fun in a 32 ft Monaco LaPalma gas coach. You are correct that short class A’s are rare now.

I am not saying that coach was more comfortable than my current coach but I could park it anywhere and I had very few problems with it. And it fit my budget at the time.

Tiffin’s shortest gas class A has been the Open Road 32 SA for a number of years. It is 34ft overall length, so not particularly short. It replaced the 31SA. I think you have to go back a decade or more before there are any sub 30 footers.

The Breeze mini-DP is still available, but only in the 33ft length. In the past it was available in 31 and 28. Not sure they were all that great to drive with a 156 inch wheelbase.

Newmar makes gas class A in sub 30ft lengths - the Bay Star Sport line.

Tiffin still lists the Breeze 33 BR (Diesel Pusher) on their website, as a 2023. Are you saying that they are no longer manufacture it ?

Winnebago no longer sells it new, but I really like my 27N floor plan from Winnebago. 29' length. Highlights: 64/43/53 Water/Black/Grey tanks. Plus another 6 gal water in the DSI water heater. 18,000 lb chassis. 46" main TV. 3 slides. Walk around queen bed. 120 cu. ft. basement storage. 27N was a Vista, then a Vista LX, then an Adventurer over the years. All had the same floor plan.

No. I'm saying that's now the smallest Tiffin class A. They used to have a 31 footer and some years before that a 29 footer, but they are no longer in production. The 29 footer (the M28BR) was last available in 2015.

I love my little 23' class A because I can park it about anywhere. When I back into a spot there is often grass or curb around it and I can let my rear overhang that by a few feet and I am in as far as the rest of the vehicles. I take it through drive thru fast food joints too. I also appreciate the easy turning when my GPS takes me down dead end streets. I guess people just want more interior space nowadays.

We are really enjoying our 2021 Class A WBGO Adventurer 29B, which is just 30' long. WBGO now has nearly identical floorplan, features, and specs in the Sunstar 29V and 29NP and the Vista 29V.

FWIW, we've looked at some of the new ones and noted the price is higher for what you get. Similarly, the price/value for smaller Class C's and some Camper Vans seems to have gone decidedly upscale, with prices around $200k .
