Diesel Smell
After traveling in our motor home, our bedding smells of diesel. The bed is on top of motor. Does anyone else have this problem and is there anything to do to prevent this other than stripping bed before an outing?

You should not have any smell, there must be a exhaust leak or some other problem.

I agree.
The only time there is a diesel smell in our motor home is if I spill some on my cloths or if I running the engine with the engine compartment. Did that this morning. Came back after running errands and the smell was gone.
Many years ago when I was in the navy, I was not allowed in the house without changing my uniform because of the cigarette smoke and the smell of JP-5.
So odors will stick to cloth. It seems to me that odor from raw fuel last longer than the smell from exhaust.
You may want to look for fuel leaks.

Something is not right. You have excess smell and/or the house is not sealed. First place would check is the seal to the engine access hatch.

Thanks, I'll check the seal. We don't smell diesel in the room only on the sheets and blankets. We've been removing all bedding before traveling and thats a hassle.

If you don't smell diesel in the air, maybe its not diesel you smell on your linen.
Could be the washer is going sour from stagnate water inside and needs a good cleanout.
Linen will pick this up first and hold the smells longer. It may smell like diesel to you, but smell like something else to others.
Ask a friend or a loved one who hasn't been around the linen or the bed room, what it smells like to them.
I've experienced sewer gas pulled into the rear of the coach by the fantastic fan in the bathroom while traveling down the road and using the fan.
We all thought it was diesel fumes at first and used the fan again even more to remove the smell, didn't work.
It took awhile to figure it out, the smell would go away after we opened the front door, so now we keep a side window open just enough to eliminate the cabin vacuum created when the fan has to be used with all closed up.
No more gasses

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Our coach has an access door in the bedroom floor to get to the top of the engine. I suspect yours has one also and that the seal is bad. I may be in the closet or under the bed.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Keep a bottle of baby powder where you can get to it from outside. A little on the spot will get most of the oil off the clothes so it does not transfer inside. And will cover the smell.

It would be nice if you listed the make/model/year/chassis/engine of the coach you have so that folks that may have the same make or model, might help with potential placed to seal up or check.

It could be where wires &hose go thru the floor into the coach, & seal is leaking.

Have you ever done an unplanned lift pump replacement including both fuel filters on an ISB on a Freightliner chassis in the middle of Noplace Idaho (pop 25)?
The pump filling and venting is done from under the bed. The key is not spilling fuel on the bedroom carpet. Cloths and cleaning rags go in a garbage bag.
Fortunately we were not running bio diesel made from used French fry oil. It attracts bears.

Cleaning up from making repairs is different. But most times somebody that drives a diesel pickup, truck, or MH will be a splash or dribble when fueling. After decades of pumping fuel every morning, getting it on me at least once every 2 weeks, clean clean clean to get the smell out of truck, then do it again, I started to keep powder in with my fueling gloves. (First, used a bag of flour. Worked, but the baby powder bottle is much easier to use) Spent much less time cleaning oil out of truck.
