Dino Oil?
Starting a new thread to avoid hijacking the "Synthetic Oil" thread ...
this is probably a really dumb question, but in that thread, there is reference to "dino" oil. To what is this referring - dinosaur???

Even though regular old pump-from-the-ground oil is derived from ... PLANTS ???
Well, not entirely. All of the little sea creatures that lived in those ancient seas left deposits. Still, the early speculations were that oil was a waste product of dinos.
Not a big deal now, of course.

want to go green ? Just buy and use everything made of carbon, OH shoot EVERYTHING is made of carbon. Unless it's man made, oh I think even the man made stuff is made of carbon. Oh well the earth was here long before man and I'm betting it will be here long after.

I am old school, I use "Dino" oil every 3500 miles in my engine. However, my rear axle specs call for synthetic so I use synthetic in my axle.

Our rear axle (Meritor 19-145) calls for dino gear lube but I can use synthetic if I want to extend the change interval from yearly to 3 years. I will do that next time as I already had the dino oil in the garage. Not something I want to do every year. In fact I don't want to do it every three years!!

Let's not argue about is it from this or that.
Think "The kind of oil that has been around since your great grandad's time, You know, when Dinosaurs walked the earth.
Not accurate eiter (it has not been around that long) but it conveys the idea.

People - please: I really meant the original post to be a humorous play on words: I think we can all agree that the stuff has been around a LONG time, as opposed to originating in a laboratory in the last year
