Discovery 40X hot water tank question

was just reading an article on getting one's motorhome ready for the spring and there was mention to check the anode rod of the hot water heater. I'm not sure if a 40X would have an anode rod and where I would find it on the tank. Can anyone help?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

You will need to know who manufactured the WH in your rig. Some used anode rods and others didn't.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

You might double check, but our friends have a 40X and it has a tankless water heater. The note in the manual could be just generic instructions for all models. IF it is a tank type and has a anode rode, it will be attached to the back of the drain plug.

If you have a standard RV water heater.....one that has a tank AND it is a Suburban Brand then the 'anode rod' is part of the drain plug

Drain plug is in outside compartment where the gas valve etc are.
Behind/below gas valve assembly

Need a 6 point socket that is 1 1/16" in size

Need an anode rod because tank is Steel---glass lined and will rust w/o one

If you have an Atwood Brand then you do NOT have an anode rod.....non needed cause tank is aluminum
Drain plug is NYLON and uses a 15/16 or 7/8 socket (depends on plug mfg.)

IF you have an Oasis--Aqua Hot etc then No anode rod
