Dish Network

I have a class a motorhome with dish network recently installed. I have wireless internet through a hot spot on my cell phone. I cant get the internet to work on my dish network and they are telling me that I may not be able to use my hot spot for the internet. Does anyone have dish and use their hotspot for the internet? I purchased a wifi adapter on their suggestion. Please let me know if the tech is crazy. How else can we connect the tv to the internet except for wireless.

Dish

Not sure if this will help, but some of the Samsung TV’s need an adapter plugged into an hdmi port in order to pick up internet.

I think it has more to do with your TV than with Dish. I really am not smart enough to use our smart tv in the MH, but I did figure out how to get what is showing on my phone to the tv screen. Using my hot spot and the Dish app on my phone I can watch anything I can watch at home. But, it much easier just to put up the dish.

Which Dish receiver, cell phone, and cell phone company are you using?
If you don't get a response, you might want to post this in the technology forum

Am I understanding you have a Dish reciever with a Dish wifi adapter attached to the Dish reciever - and can't get the Dish reciever with wifi to connect to your cellular hotspot?

I have Wally reciever with wifi adapter connected to a AT&T / Netgear 815 cellular hotspot. Works well.

Dish Network

I have read that you need the actual “dish “WiFi adapter or at least the same spec as off the shelf USB adapters won’t work. I know people who it works as advertised. I have my Wally directly wired to my router that’s getting its internet from either a Verizon or ATT hotspot via wan . It works great but my Wally really only does Netflix and system downloads via internet. Other providers ( Hulu ,CBS VUDU etc ) aren’t supported.
I use a Roku ( living room) and Apple TV ( bedroom) for almost all internet streaming. ( via cellular through the same router)
From what you’ve said your tech is confused or clueless in helping you.

Most TV’s in newer MH’s are Smart TV’s and come with Netflix, Amazon apps and many more. We have cut back to the cheapest programming on Satellite, to mainly catch the local channels. With Direct TV you have to log into account and go to chat to change service address, calling can waste 30 minutes of your time!

The Wally receiver requires a specific network adapter. You can buy the adapter from Dish but the adapter is actually Netgear. The Dish adapter is about $50 and the eBay Netgear adapters about $20. The specific Netgear adapter is: Netgear 179048 Wi-Fi network adapter

The adapter works with ANY wi-fi signal including a hotspot or when parked at my home, my range extended router's wi-fi signal. The wi-fi worked with Hughesnet range extended wi-fi (now gone in favor of AT&T fixed wireless interner) Doesn't matter which carrier. Period.

Here is my wrap up for when I switched from DirecTV to Dish and then put Dish in my RV for $7 (in addition to the cost of Dish in my Home):

Isn't Dish capable of providing satellite internet along with tv programming? I know it's not super fast, and I don't know what it costs, but if you have satellite, why wouldn't you just get your internet that way?

The dish satellite antenna isn't capable of send and receiving internet. What dish does is partner with wire-based internet providers to give you small savings go through Dish to sign up.
