I don't believe black tire covers shorten life expectancy. I knew a guy who always used black covers....and he lived to be 97!!

Motorhome tires seem to last 7-10 years with covers or somewhere north of 2,555 days without them. Take your pick.

OK. Thanks guys. Sounds like black tire covers are fine. If/when my black tire covers turn to junk, white next time!

Ah, but with white covers you can let the DW paint flamingos on them, and feel right at home, near the "Villages".
Ask me how I know.

Not exactly: https://www.rvtiresafety.net/2012/06...do-damage.html
But black mesh screens are different, probably due to the mesh and the fact they do not touch the tire like a cover does, more than the actual color: https://www.rvtiresafety.net/2017/10...d-without.html

Many many years ago it was common practice to paint telescope observatory dome white or silver assuming these colors reflected more light and helped keep the interior of the dome cool. Then along comes a guy who points out it's not the color of the paint in visible light that matters, it's how the paint reflects in the Infrared. Oh, yeah. Insert the sound of a collective forehead slap here.
You may find that in infrared light, the "white" covers appear darker. Inquiring minds want to know.

I just conducted an outrageously technical science experiment. One whose rigor would no doubt be endorsed by Mr Science himself, Anthony Fauci.
I put an IR thermometer on a black tire cover I’m using. In full sun, it read 134 degF. Lifting the cover to check the spot on the tire the cover was actually touching, it read 121 degF.
There you have it. I don’t know what you have, but there it is.

Please continue this experiment with 1/4" plywood covers.
Enquiring minds would like to know.
BTW, that's what we used back in the '70's, before "Amazon".
