The REGEN is part of the Diesel Particle Filter (DPF) system, which is independent of the catalytic converter/DEF system. The DPF with the need to REGEN began in 2007 MY engines, and in 2010 the DEF system was added to DPF so the need to REGEN remains.

You can have a DPF engine without DEF, but you cannot have a DEF engine without DPF. (Confused yet?)

Our 2008 Monaco Dynasty with the Cummins 425 hp engine had the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). In 7 yrs. and almost 70K miles, it worked fine, no problems at all.

The Dynasty would go through a 'regen' about once every 8-10k miles.

Our new coach with the DPF and DEF has gone through 2 regens that I have noticed in 5 yrs. and 56,000 miles. Again, no problems with this system so far.

I hope that they don't reverse the emission rules, maybe keep them the same for a while but not reverse them. I WANT CLEAN AIR!

Hopefully soon we can travel again!
