Do RV propane tanks require inspection intervals?

Howdy Folks,

Was reading the post on filling propane tanks and got to wondering.
Do our tanks require inspection? Have not had to fill up yet as we only use propane now for cooking.

Thanks,
Greg

For portable tanks, yes, usually every 10 years for travel trailers at least. Here's some info.

For built-in tanks like on a motor home (ASME tanks), no. Here's a previous thread on the subject.

Fixed installation RV tanks do not have an inspection requirement, only portable tanks.

Depends on type of tank

See https://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/pro...on-465693.html.

DOT-certified tanks, usually the portable cylinders, do require re-inspection and certification.

The built-in tanks are ASME-certified and usually do not require recertification. However, they should at least be visually inspected by the owner and repaired if rust is showing. If a rust line follows a zigzag path on the tank outer surface, that is most likely a crack in the tank shell. Get it replaced immediately.
