Thanks for the feedback.

Let me point out to younger readers that 60 mph was 5 mph too fast on the equipment in the 70s and 80s.

There have also been big changes about how think about safety. Tires are a lot better too. My first experience with heavy duty tires was OE Firestone tires on a '74 IH TA. After my father was driving at 80 mph it was my turn. Before I got up to highway speed, I pulled over because something was not right.

Putting your hand between the tread/steel belts and the tire body counts as something wrong. With 15k on the tires they were going bad.

Nope, never felt safe in our class A DP

I am not a "Scaredy Cat" by any means, having ridden and raced motorcycles since 1968. The primary reason we sold our Class A DP was that I never felt safe being the "First person at the accident", with only some plywood and fiberglass between me and the crash site.

While our coach was well constructed (Alpine 40MDTS) there was literally only plywood and fiberglass under and in front of my A**. I constantly worried about a front tire blowout that could shred the tread off and have that 100+ lb road snake take off my or DW's legs.

Went "Super C" on a Freightliner chassis and all that stress and worry is no longer there. I know that in the event of an accident we are well protected.
