Most RV roof decks are not designed for a large volume of traffic. Our roof deck is solid and suitable for walking for maintenance. I would never use if as an observation post due to potential damage to the roof.

I have no concern for what other people do to their RVs or roofs. I do right for me.

I recommend an observation deck if you want to use the roof of your coach on regular basis.

TrickFab in Senoia, Ga did this one for my coach.

Having been up there with the 3 ac's 3 roof vents, solar panels, sat dishes, air horns, skylights, batwing tv antenna, etc.., etc...

I probably wouldn't, ESPECIALLY if there was alcohol involved

Road Atlanta, backstretch, just past the exit of 7, and you’re sitting on the skid pad.

Nice spot for Petit, how long have you had it?

Do you use your roof for seating for special events?

When I have a good reason to go on the roof, I am concerned about falling because at the height it could be fatal for me. If possible I find someone to be a safety monitor. I perfer someone with practical experience like in conctruction.

Being athletic is nice but does not make your head and spine less fragil. Having a masters degree is nice too. I have worked with many very smart people with advance degrees and that I would not trust to be my safety monitor.

An atletic young man working at a big box store was hurt in a fall. He was wearing the required fall harness. He and his safety monitor both failed to check the harnes was properly secured.

Well trained people in a controlled setting make mistakes.

That's fine. You are averse to risk. I have zero problem with that. That said, why are you driving 15-20 tons of RV down the highway? The risks that come with that are huge and you could easily get there much more safely by flying. (A: because you are willing to take that risk.)

Secondly, I wasn't asking you or anyone else on this forum what you thought of people climbing up on roofs. I was asking if the roof was strong enough to support such actions and what types of precautions should I take in doing so. By your own answers, you are not in the "Never" camp. There are times you feel the need to climb up there, for maintenance or whatever. Again, you are willing to take that risk. A spotter isn't going to do jack for you if you go over. They will simply be able to call for help quickly. I'm pretty sure in those few situations that I described, there will be plenty of people around to do so.

On an episode of the walking dead the governor and his henchman were hitting golf balls off the roof of a motorhome. The governor wacked his henchmands head with a 3 iron and knocked him off the motorhome. He survived the fall but of course died after the zombies got him.

I probably should get some kind of insurance rider for this.
