Does anybody ACTUALLY rotate tires on a M/H?

Hey gang,
Tires are subject that's talked about, oh, at least a few dozen times a week. Tire pressure, monitors, wear, weight, covers, cleaning, protective elixers and a whole lot more. Every once in awhile, someone mentions ROTATING the tires on a motor home. Well, as just about all of us know, about 99.9999% of the motor homes out there, don't have the same layout of tire and wheel assemblies like your average car/truck/SUV does.

That is, on all of those, you can basically rotate the tires on an every so often basis, so you can get the most mileage and wear from them because, for the most part, you have the same exact wheel AND tire, on each corner of the vehicle. That allows for each tire and wheel to be placed on any corner 'cause they're all symmetric.

But, when it comes to motor homes, at least 99% of them out there, the tires are all the same, front and back. But, front wheels and rear wheels are different in many of them, not all. But for the ones that are, as in say, our coach, there's really no way to EASILY rotate your tire and wheel assemblies.

Simply because of the wheel design and specifically the polished side, it's just not feasible. I guess you could break down each tire and wheel assembly and just move the tires around, that would work. But, at what cost? I know a lot of folks with larger class As and, not one of them has ever talked about rotating their tires. Anyone?

Only if I am experiencing abnormal tire wear like I did with my Badyear front tires. Got another couple of years before dumping all six.

Been RV'ing since 1957 with my parents, he never rotated the tires as back then (1958) they blew out too soon.
Since I got my first TT in 1968 I've never rotated the RV's tires.

Most motorhome tires usually reach their age limit long before they wear out . Rotating the tires makes sure they all wear out evenly , so you can get the most mileage out of them. I have purchased new steering tires and taken the old ones and replaced the oldest tires on the rear with them , but that's the extent to my tire rotation.
Most people do not change their own tires , so taking it in to get them rotated could get quite costly. The tractor trailer and truckers I know do not rotate the tires on their big rigs.

Nope. If you pay attention to the pressures and keep it aligned you will likely age out the tires before you come close to wearing them out.

On my classic GMC I did but on my current diesel pusher no way. Too heavy and without breaking down the rims you could only do it side to side.

I never have had any abnormal wear on the tires. So I do not even bother to rotate. Where you find most of the problems is on coaches with independent front suspension. Most of your bigger coaches have the I-beam front just riding on air bags. A lot of the 40' with IFS get what is called rivering and that is caused by too much bounce and your shocks wear out faster.

Also the tires are too darn heavy to rotate them myself.

Well i recently rotated them when I found a screw in the left front steering tire. Patched it and swapped it with a rear tire.

I did after the first year of ownership then realized how much work it was and the wear pattern didn't, and 40 miles later still hasn't shown, a need.

The only reason to rotate tires on any vehicle is if you have uneven wear from cupping (bad shocks or balance) or shoulder wear ( alignment ). Wear on both shoulders in low air pressure and center wear is too much air. It is best to fix the cause before rotation.

Well,
It's as I figured, no one does it. I wasn't planning on it, I was just curious. On coaches with stainless wheel covers, it's probably more feasible but, on coaches with polished alloys, ain't happening. I just did a five tire rotation on our '15 JKUR Jeep and that was easy, DISCOUNT did it and, checked all the balance too. Can't beat Discount tire. As for the coach, it's got a brand new set of Yokahama RY103 265 75 22.5 LRG tires on it and, they "should" last me the total time we own this coach.
