Every one of you is right! Living dangerously is not a good idea. Gold is a good conductor, so at least I would have fried myself with style.... I have seen a lot of smoke released in my day.. I try to limit it to only bad smoke. I keep most of the good smoke contained.

I assume going camping next week is out? LOL
I spend hrs and $$$ to clean stuff up like this that no one will ever see and really does nothing but look pretty right before it gets covered up. Wife thinks I have issues

But YOU know it is fixed right when you are on the road. Peace of mind is a good thing. This was supposed to be a retirement project for me a couple of years ago. I haven’t gotten around to retiring yet, so it is a once a week project for the time being. (Although I am searching the web all the time for more info)

There is literally many miles of oversized gauge wire on my Discovery. Behind every cabinet drawer, ceiling, wall, under carriage, pilar and door. Must be hundreds of pounds.
All the dash stuff is connected to the engine almost 40 feet away.
Then there is hundreds of feet of cables, cords, piping, and hoses. Many run in a 2+' wide tray 20+ feet on the under body.
Wonder why stuff breaks?

Good luck with your task.....

It will be lot of work, but worth it in the end....

Your photos remind me of when I bought my 20 year old, 46' boat...

I needed to upgrade the radar, VHF radio, depth finder, and GPS on the flybridge, plus an additional VHF radio in the salon and new SSB antenna...

When I opened up the wire runs to run new wires, I decided first to locate and remove all the wire from previous installations, that was no longer being used, and was just left in place...

I ended up with a 55 gal trash can jammed FULL of old, unused wiring... The "purge" took almost two full days on it's own..

In the end it made the new installations easier, and really cleaned up the wiring on the boat...

Good job...!!

Believe it or not, I like doing it. I spent a lot of time building test fixtures for the telecom industry. You start with one wire... This is my 3rd project RV. I’ll have to check back to see if insanity runs in my family....

Funny that it's "Lucas" brand wire smoke....

If you ever owned a British car with a Lucas electrical system, you never seemed to run out of wire smoke.....

Little wonder " Lucas " picked up the nick name " Death Star Electronics" .

BTW: Three British cars growing up and 33 years at Chrysler where they insisted on using Lucas as a supplier . I've inhaled way to much Lucas smoke .

Your lifeline seems to suggest: when the going gets tough, keeping busy helps you feel safe and secure.
