Dometic Refer Fan

I have been toying with the notion of installing a circulation fan somewhere in the refrigerator compartment of our Dometic side by side refrigerator on our 2000 CC Intrigue.

The idea is to use the existing 12 light switch as a power source, and install a 12vdc computer fan to circulate air throughout the compartment, thus avoiding or reducing cold/warm spots (read frozen veggies, warm beverages).

Two things come to mind: 1) The obvious, excessive house battery drain, and; 2) Heat generated by the operation of the fan.

Has anybody tried something like this? If so, what were your experiences regarding these two issues? Any other negative/positive effects?

TIA, Rick

I put this fan, Dometic Refrigerator Fan to INCREASE cooling inside Deluxe custom Built | eBay, from Ebay in my single door 7cuft Dometic and it works great. I connected it to my door light power supply. I run it when ever I am on 12vdc or if outside temperatures soar when on 120vac. I have a temp guage on inside door of freezer and fridge and whenever I see the temperature on the inside go above 42 degrees I flip the fan on for increased cooling circulation. The fridge cools right down. I also keep a container of ice in the freezer and put in down in the fridge when its above 90 and I'm driving.

Nice. Ordered it!

Our refer only operates on gas or 120VAC, but this should work, since the light is 12vdc.

Hopefully, any heat generated by the fans will be negated by increased efficiency.

The on/off switch and fuse are both good ideas. If I am worried about battery drain, I'll shut it off...

Rick, the small fans like you ordered will be fine for smaller fridges but if you have a 10 cubic foot like the Norcold 1200 it may not do the job very well. Take a look at the FridgeFix fan bars!

Joe & Annette - Another good call.

I have ordered the ebay fans, so I am sort of committed to at least try them out. If they don't work well, I will go to plan B, and add the ebay fans to my experience file...

Thanks, Rick.
