Dometic RM7732 Fridge takes 48hrs to cool

Hey,

I have a 1999 Discovry with what I beleive is the original fridge in it, a Dometic RM7732. When we go to cool it down for the first time for a trip, it takes 48hrs to cool down. It's on 120v when doing so. Once cooled, the freezer gets to 17º and the fridge to the 39-42º range. Seems to hold it there fairly well. I know these are not the most efficient things. I checked the heating elements thinking one may have gone bad so it is slower thans should be. But, they are both drawing the same amperage. I have not tried it on gas from a dead start. The RV usually has the roof A/C on to about 80º if it's really hot outside. I know hot temps outside can be a bit to overcome.

Is this normal? Anyone else have the issue?

No it should not take 48 hrs to cool down.........12 hrs would be more in range

BUT it is 25+ YRS OLD

Surprised it reaches reasonable temps and maintains them

Is the RV (fridge) LEVEL?
Is it in a slideout?
Does it have exterior fan? Does it run?
Are you using the MAX Cold setting?
Have you checked the door seals...........dollar bill test?

Again.........it is a 25= yr old fridge and cooling unit most likely has some internal plating out of sodium chromate crystals causing obstruction of coolant flow

Do some research and install external fans. You’ll be amazed at how much they will boost the units efficiency.

For a test, remove the outside vent covers and set up a fan blowing into the fridge. You’ll be amazed.

When I removed my cooling unit on my 20-year-old fridge I saw that the paste used to transfer the heat was hard and brittle. It even had a black color like it had been way overheated. I've wondered if replacing that paste would have helped the cooling. I just know it was nothing like what I used on the new cooling unit.

Mine takes two days to get cool but it is usually 100 degrees or more when I start . When it gets cold it will stay cold no matter how hot it gets.
