Your windshield is dirty, or was it raining?

It's actually legal in about half the country - 28 states. East coast - no. Western states more yes but not in my home state. I know a guy that does it all the time, I am stressed enough just towing my truck.

A tow bar is considered the same as a fifth wheel hitch, so as long as he was within length requirements, he was legal.

With that said, that truck weighs 6K, so that BBQ will be pressing the limits of a 10K tow bar.

Looks like what I do, only a utility trailer, just about 10' or so over length, not too bad. Just like the car, don't even know it's back there. When I pulled into station to fuel up, did create some inconvenience for a few motorists.

It's legal in Texas. My buddy has done it with a tow vehicle, travel or 5th wheel trailer, and utility or sailboat trailer many times over the years.

Couldn't find the page I wanted but this one below gives some information.

Texas Length Limits

Edited to add: I personally don't ever want to do it. Imo, it just adds more things to think about and that can go wrong. We almost always have the boat trailing behind us so I doubt we'll ever think about moving into a 5th wheel or trailer.

My buddy tows his RZR on a trailer behind his fiver. Has a camera on the back of the fiver. He can actually back that mess surprisingly well.

I saw a DP towing a Jeep with a golf cart trailer behind it the other day.

I would guess that most double tow over legal length and never get pulled over and measured. I’m not condoning it, just saying.

I do not know where a fifth wheel hitch would be considered the same as a tow bar. It is not in Oregon. Fifth wheel travel trailers are allowed passengers here. Not so with bumper pull of any kind.

Oregon prohibits double or triple towing as well.

In states that permit double towing, often drivers are in violation of lighting or trailer braking laws. It would be expensive and difficult to have brake control on both towed vehicles. Not to mention balancing the brakes, if they had them.

Why would you assume most that double tow don’t have legal lighting? It’s not rocket science to do trailer wiring connections.
Usually the second trailer is light enough that it’s not required to have brakes.
I doubt triple towing is legal in any state.
