DP fuel mileage

I have a 2004 Holiday Rambler Endeavor 40 with an ISC 8.3L Cummins Allison transmission. Weight is right around 30,000 lbs total. We usually tow a 8.5 x 20 ft enclosed trailer with a Mini Cooper and a goldwing or a scooter total weight is about 8,500 lbs. typically I run 60-67 mph 1400-1600 rpm on the freeway

When we first got the rig it got 10 mpg by itself and 8.5 mpg when we tow the trailer. I was informed that this was about right for my rig.

Well when we were in Florida (for the winter) in April 2019 we had a full service fluid and filter change. Something strange has been happening after that. The mileage has been gradually getting better. This last April when we came back home FtMyers to Ohio. From FM to Marianna the rig got 10.5 mpg!

I can only surmise this, we had a lot of external work done while we were in FM. New roof coating with new slide seals and top covers/awnings. So we started out real slow consistently listening for any strange sounds.

Traffic was kinda strange too not too much of it. We had been watching the interstate cameras and earlier than April 1st there had been a lot of camper traffic heading north. Those virus warnings must have thrown off normal traffic.

Anyway we started off about 55 for the first hour then 60 for the second and finally up to 65 after that. One thing we did notice was there was no traffic mess (stop n go) around Tampa! I mean right through! I figure the lower speeds and lack of traffic contributed to the improvement in mileage. So it's true SPEED KILLS your mileage!

Last summer, we took 2015 Thor Palazzo on an almost 3,000 mile trip out west to Arizona, Utah, Colorado, etc. (we live in Louisiana) and averaged anywhere from 9.5 to almost 10 (according to our gauges). We pull a 2016 Jeep Wrangler, which I think weighs in the 5,000 lb. range. This past weekend, went up to the "hills" in Arkansas and averaged right at 10 again. We did run generator all the while on last weekend's trip, as it was close to 95 degrees while we were traveling to and from. We've only had the DP for less than 2 years now and haven't really calculated the mileage the old fashioned way (keep track of miles after a fill-up and then re-fill). Right now, only assuming gauges are working properly. We are pretty pleased in our mileage (compared to our gasser we had prior to this) so far.

And we very seldom exceed 65 mph.

Ditto. 65-68 seems to be the sweet spot, but the hills kill you.

8.5 mpg overall since purchase

Four years into ownership I get 8.5 mpg overall since purchase. I tow a Ford Fusion Hybrid (the battery adds weight) and cruise at 65 mph, not to exceed 70 mph per Ford requirements. I use a Cetane additive when I fill up but I don't know if it helps mileage or not. I also avoid biodiesel as much as possible.

We purchased used. The computer had 6.7 MPG on it. After a few thousand miles we still see 6.7 MPG on it. When I checked the mileage after between fill ups we were getting 6.7.

We pull a Ford Edge and drive about 63-68 depending on the driver and the road.

Mileage

I get about 9.5 to 9.7 with 2017 Winnebago Forza 34T (about 35.5') with a ISB 6.7, 340 HP, pulling a nearly 4000# suv on a tow dolly @ 65MPH.

Weigh just under 45K lbs and when towing Grand Cherokee while cruising at 65mph we got 6.5mpg when new and now 7mpg at just under 8K miles.

Just made an 1,100 mile trip to NH and back from Upstate NY. 8.3 ISC, allison 6 speed. I set the cruise control at 65 and let it run. This meant it was working pretty hard on some of the many, many hills in NY, MA, and NH. Good news is it only slowed below 60 mph a couple times on very long grades. 30,000 lbs and 8.2 mpg calculated with pen and paper. I'm sure it would do better if I ran slower and let it "comfortably" pull the hills. But, happy as the old class C got high 7's at best and crawled up grades.

Just finished an 800 mile trip in the "new to us" Dutch Star 4369 towing the Honda and with the 10k generator running all the time we got 6.0. It would probably be closer to 7.0 without running the generator. I am happy with that.
