DP Oil Change

Does anyone who lives in or around the Buffalo/Western New York area have a suggestion on where to take a DP for general oil and lube service? Thanks!

My V10 I always changed the oil in the driveway, however, I wouldn't consider it with the amount of oil in the diesel. And then there is the chassis lube too that would need to be done, I had that done on my gasser at the shop that did the yearly inspection.

Oil change

I see this talked about on numerous ocassions and I am not sure why I don’t see anyone talk about the Jabsco reversible oil transfer pump system. Used these for years, permentely installed with high pressure hose on 50’ sport fish boats. Never crawled under to pull drain plug yet. Pump old out to a bucket and the new into engine, plugged pick up line for security and done. I have a W24 Newmar now but when we upgrade to 43’, will be one of my first upgrades since I do all myself.

Jpool, I looked it up on Amazon and read a bunch of the reviews. Interesting idea, but everyone seemed to use it on gas boat motors or at home on cars and lawnmowers. I noticed Sureflo has a version also. I don't think the bucket is big enough for the amount of oil in a Cummings diesel, which I think, not sure, is around 15 qts.

I have read on this and other forums of members who are able to have diesel class A rigs get oil changes for as little as $159 at chain oil change type places, none that I am aware of in the WNY area. If I can find someplace local to change my oil for under $200 it would be well worth it.

Thanks for posting the question. I've been debating how I'm going to handle oil changes on my DP. I hate paying others to do things that I can reasonably do myself. My Dutch Star DP year 2000 with 300 cummins holds 22 quarts. Amazon and many parts stores carry 23 or 24 quart pans for around $30-35. I think that's the direction I'll go.

Do you have a steam gennie? The first thing the pros do before servicing a DP is steam clean the entire engine compartment including the radiator and intercooler of road grime grease oil and gunk that will cause engine overheating and or engine compartment fire if neglected.

I also don’t want to manage 10 gallons of oil every oil change. I buy the oil, oil and fuel filters and then pay the local Loves truck stop their labor rate. They also grease the chassis.

When I had a DP on an FL chassis that's how it's done at a FL Oasis. You know the number one cause of RV fire when under way? Rear engine compartment fire due to improper maintenance.
