Dry Camping First Time Onan Generator Question

Hi,

I did a one night dry camp to make sure all my equipment was working properly before a longer trip. I noticed that my Onan 4000 generator with the A/C off and a limited load (coffee maker and phone chargers) would make some funky sounds as if it was revving down almost like if turning off then rev back up. Is this normal?

Also as a rookie not sure but when dry camping to conserve battery should I leave the water pump and heater on or turn on as needed? Thanks!

The RPM of my 6.3 Onan drops whenever a load is applied and then speeds back up and runs smoothly.

I leave the water pump on anytime I'm in the coach, (it draws no current unless I draw water).
If by heater you mean LP water heater I leave mine on when I'm using the coach, except when traveling.
If you mean furnace use it only when needed.
BTW, my refrigerator is set to LP and running 24/7 from the day before we leave home until the day we return, sometimes for months on end, (except when fueling the coach or the LP tank).

Everybody does whatever they are comfortable doing.
For most things there is no right or wrong way....(just some strong, often misguided, opinions).
(If you read or hear something that doesn't sound right it probably isn't)!

You will soon figure out what works best for you.

the revving up of the generator was probably due to the coffee maker, it will draw a lot of power when heating the water but no so much when just keeping the coffee warm..
