The process to remove the film requires peeling and scraping using plastic scrappers and heat guns or steamers. Once the film has been removed the some type of adhesive remover is used to get the remaining glue off. I am not aware of any solvent that will remove the film without hours and hours of peeling and scraping.

One of my future projects is to remove the shield, and have it replaced. I haven't yet decided whether to remove it myself (many hours required), or pay to have it done. However, I did remove a small patch of it around the entry door handle. Based on the recommendation of others, I used a product called De-Solv-It Citrus Solution. It is a citrus based solvent (smells like orange juice). It worked pretty well, and didn't take a great deal of time to get that patch off. Although, that patch was pretty small, about 1 foot square, and only about 2 1/2 inches wide with a big hole in the middle where the door handle is. I have mold growing under the film, and it's starting to look unsightly.

I used plastic razor blades from Amazon. This in combination with a heat gun. Then used a goo begone to get the residue sticky off.

Im removing some decals that are faded and pealing. Got the plastic scraper and blades from amazon. Didn't have a heat gun but DW's hair drier works just fine.
First used Goo Gone didn't work real well needed lots of elbow grease to get the glue and dirt off. Found a similar product called Goo Off that worked ten times better. Still very labor intensive.

Citrus air freshener works the best for removing glue of all the solvents my husband (is he a DH?) has tried. Recently ordered some more for him and he used it today to take the labels off a Mason jar for me. It literally melts the glue and he smells better after using it too. We now use a citrus concentrate (added to water) as our primary cleaner.
