Yeah to the greed of some parks. We had reservations in Casper made in Oct of 2016. Park contacted us to let us know our reservations were still valid, but that new price was set up for the Eclipse period. Over three times as high, so we politely told them to shove their profits in a dark hole.

We are in Newport, OR. And yes, all of Oregon news and state and city officials - seem to have really been hyping the traffic event that is expected. Though suspect this very hype, as well as reports of many fires over the last few weeks and into this weekend, have kept some of the crowds away. In Newport, Why 101 is the main drag North and South. They expected a full weekend of long delays and traffic jambs. Friday and Saturday were lighter then normal, as I suspect the locals have decided to stay off the roadways. Not seeing the crowds they expected, yet. (It is more crowded then a normal peak season crowd, but nothing so major to be a problem. That was from an outing on Friday to the harbor tourist area, and then on Saturday to the Farmer's Market.

Time will tell if this will be traffic gridlock wise another Year Date 2000 'non event' - or if problems occur, very localized.

Now, of all of you in the East would please turn your fans on outside, and point from West to East - we'd appreciate your help sucking the AM clouds and any smoke haze out of the area... Thank You.

Best to all,
Smitty

People are going nuts in Oregon. 15 mile long traffic jams around Madras. Portland car rental agencies expect to rent out 17,000 vehicles for the weekend.
Me, I'm going to be home, watching it on TV and "celebrating" the first anniversary of my late DW's death.

Central Oregon seems to be about the only problem area so far:

Expected eclipse traffic hasn't hit much of Oregon yet | KGW.com

I'm starting to question our decision to give up the room we had in the direct path at the coast. DW was worried about getting stuck for hours in traffic with the kids. It seems many others had the same fear.

We're in the tetons, Gros Ventre for the event. Road from main highway to Kelly will be one way on monday, left lane will be parking, porta jons are set up every quarter mile.

Surprisingly, if anything Jackson is less crowded than useual. The park is it's normal heavy summer crowd mess with parking at hotspots like Jenny lake hard to come by, and traffic jams if someone spots so much as a chipmunk by the road.

We're in south/west NC just north of the border. We'll head south about 7 or 8 tomorrow AM (in an industrial/commercial estate, friend's business is there...)

Don't know what to expect tomorrow, but figure any place with a parking spot is fair game for the few hours I'll be there. Figure I'll head north as soon as it gets light...

We drove from NJ to a Pilot on 75 right outside of Athens, TN. Fueled up and found a nice parking spot in the back of the lot. Traffic was more impacted by the RVs leaving the NASCAR race in Bristol.

What a yawn..... This eclipse traffic was over-hyped slightly more than Y2K around Portland. Traffic around the entire metro area was the lightest I've seen it on a weekday in the last 5+ years.

The news stations were telling everyone to have 2 weeks of food and water on hand and the national guard had been mobilized to come help out.

fwiw, watching from my backyard in the 99% zone was pretty cool.
