Electric Slide Operation
2021 Tiffin Red 33AA - what is the optimum procedure to insure smooth operation with optimum supplied power for both electric slides?
1. Connected to 50amp shore power 1st then extend/retract electric slides?
2. No connection to 50 amp shore power and just utilize RV electric battery power.
Thanks

My two smaller slides will move on AC power or with the engine running. However, the FWS runs on engine power only and works best with the engine on high idle.

Each manufacturer is different. My Newmar won’t allow for slide operation with the engine running. When we park at a campsite, I turn off the engine and then I connect to power or start the generator before operating the slides.

Assuming I was looking at the correct manual for your coach:
"Make sure that the motorhome has been
leveled, that the battery is fully charged and
connected to the electrical system, and that
the ignition switch is ON and the engine is
running before attempting to use the slide-out
features."
If not, go to the Tiffin website and download your manual and read it.

Key to all of your slides deploying/retracting is a charged/strong battery set. If you are confident in the status of your batteries, you should be able to operate your slides just fine on batteries only. If you are not 100% sure and you have a pedestal next to you (30 or 50 amp), plug in. Or fire up your generator if no pedestal is available and you don't think your batteries aren't up to the task.
Separately, periodically on your Schwintek slides, you should go thru the sync process to assure both motors are operating in concert with one another on each slide. Doesn't have to be done often (beginning of season and maybe once or twice more during the season depending on how often you are deploying your slides), but it's better to assure all is in sync than to try to get them back into sync. Attached is the sync procedure Tiffin gave to me when I asked for it for my 2016. Simple to do and it worked for me. Hope this is helpful.

On my 2018 33AA the slides are powered by the chassis batteries, so connection to shore power or running the generator doesn't affect slide operation. However running the engine certainly ensures there is ample current to drive the slides. In fact when moving the rear slides I can detect a rpm change in the engine indicating the extra current draw. My procedure when arriving to a camp site is to level the coach then extend the slides (all 4) with the engine running. Upon breaking camp I sometimes retract the slides before starting the engine (trying to not be too obnoxious with the diesel engine running in early mornings), just ensure the chassis batteries show >12.6 V. Tiffin documentation does recommend moving slides with the engine running.
Safe travels,

Last year I had all of my slide mechanisms changed to Vroom. But I still have the Lippert (Shwintek) controllers and motors. During my walk through Vroom suggested I keep my engine running while operating the slides. They showed me the voltage was higher with the engine running, helping the motors. So, I do this.
