I agree. My steps are the Kwikee 42 model. Even the manual says it should work but for some reason it didn't that day.

The “AutoExtend” feature is another safety feature designed to extend the step when the
door is opened for the first time after the vehicle ignition is turned off, even if the override
switch is turned on. When the ignition is switched on, the function of the override switch is
disabled and the step will always extend when the door is opened and retract when the door
is closed.

Scenario - I get set up in site and flip switch so the steps stay out regardless of door. I start engine, steps pull in, switch is still in the same position.
I open door, steps do not go out. To remedy I close door, flip switch and open door, now the steps work as they should, following the door.

Sounds like there is something miswired on yours as well. The steps should always come out when the door is opened.

My step switch has no effect on the operation of the steps. I checked the switch fuse and it is fine.
Does the step switch activate a relay? I suspect it does but I don't have a schematic for my coach so I don't know where to look for it at this stage.

I tested my steps after reading the excerpt from a manual posted by Fpresto, and there is nothing I can do with the switch that keeps the steps from coming down/being down whenever the door is opened. The steps power source must bypass the battery isolation switches. If my steps are retracted with the door open I've got a blown fuse or a bad ground or something is broken.
